Social Bowls
Another good rollup for the Tuesday Social Bowls competition this week with Tony Hogan, Bob Bembrick and Ken Hartwig taking the rink win and their game 21-17 over Allan Clark, Bob Bembrick and Kevin Howard.
The Hogan team jumped early with a four-end run to be 8-0 before the Clark team scored first points on the fifth end but they were down 11-2 before they scored again.
The Hogan team maintained the pressure on the score card right through the match and simply out played the Clark team.
Garry Cameron, John Banning and Terry Burke scored a 23-15 win over John Hobson Gus Thurgood and Mick Redfern after the Hobson team scored first points.
The response from the Cameron team was a four but the Hobson team came back to lead by one after the fourth.
Scores were even after the fifth but the Cameron team took the lead 8-6 after the seventh and from here were never headed in a match that could have gone either way.
Tony McNamara, Ron Weal and Butch Stevens carded a 24-12 win over Paul Kennedy, Ian Dews and Darrell Bellamy with the McNamara team jumping from the blocks with a five.
The McNamara team were in front 10-1 after the fourth end and were never headed. Winning 13 ends to the Kennedy team’s eight the McNamara team scored a dominant win.
Noel Witney, Tim Pickstone and Jim Clark were even more overpowering with a 29-13 win over Peter Naylor, Bruce Parr and Terry Burke. Scores were even after the second end but from there the Witney team controlled the card and were 17-4 in front after the 10th end and running away with the match.
A four in the 17th end pushed the Naylor team into double figures but the result was already a forgone conclusion.
Rink winners of the Saturday Afternoon Social competition were Tony Urza and Barney Lavelle with a 25-14 win over Tony Hogan and Gus Thurgood.
Winning 13 ends to eight, the Urza team opened with a four and were 16-2 in front going into the tenth end. A final five end run for eight points capped off a top performance.
Allan North, Daryl Shurmer and Terry Clarke scored a comfortable 26-18 win over Garry Cameron, Tony Press and John Banning, despite the Cameron team scoring a six in the 19th end.
The early ends all went to the North team except the first to give them a 16-1 lead going into the 10th end where the Cameron team scored a two. From here it was all the North team and the results was beyond doubt.
Allan Clark, Bruce Parr and Frank Farrell collected the biggest margin win of the day with a 33-14 result over Glen Urza, Ian Dews and Darrell Bellamy. Opening with a three-end run for eight points, the Clark team were never headed winning 14 of the 21 ends played.
Pennants and Club Championships
In a 2017 A Pairs Championship match Mick McDonald and Tony McNamara made short work of Geoff Densmore and Roger Cooper with a 28-10 win.
Taking the early running the McDonald team were 8-0 after the fourth end and 12-5 after the tenth end.
A five and four in the 15th and 16th ends pushed the lead out to 23-8 for the McDonald team and a four in the 18th put the icing on the cake with the game called after the 20th end.
Over on rink three, Peter Naylor and Steve Corby were delivering a bowls lesson to their opponents Daryl Whitton and David Josh in another 2017 A Pairs Championship match with a final score of 37-8 after 21 ends.
The Naylor team simply refused to allow the Whitton team into the game in the first 11 ends with a lead of 27-0 going into the 12th end where the Whitton team scored their first points. A seven for the Naylor team in the 14th end pushed the score to 34-4 and it was well and truly all over by this stage.
In the first round of the District Pennants this week, both the Majellan teams had the best start possible with the Fours winning away against Orange Country Club, while the Sixes were at home to the Oberon Bowling Club to also secure the win.
The Four’s won two of the three games played with a final score of 61-51 with a winning margin of ten shots. The Sixes won all three games with a final winning score of 77-43 and a margin of 34 points.
Round two sees the Fours at home to Wallerawang this Sunday with the game due to start at 10am.
The Sixes are away at Lithgow City on Saturday with the game due to start at 12.30pm. Selectors have advised that the draw for both teams will be available after Tuesday this week so players are urged to check the notice board.
