Not only was it the first service with new minister, Reverend Claire Wright, the service was also used to present cheques totalling $10,000 raised by the Perthville Odd Jobs Team.
Can Assist received a cheque for $5000 and the Christian educator at the high schools received a cheque for the same amount.
Brian Cowan from Perthville Uniting Church said the odd jobs team has been working for about 15 years and has raised more than $150,000 for local charities in that time.
The odd jobs they complete include painting, window cleaning, gardening and taking rubbish to the tip.
“It’s our contribution to society on behalf of the church,” Mr Cowan said.
