North completed the 300 metre swim, 16km ride and 2.5km run in a time of 36 minutes and 42 seconds, continuing his stranglehold on the race.
Dean Windsor (38:58) surged away from the rest of the field over the bike leg to come home in the runner-up spot while Emily Watts (40:28) was not only the first woman home but third overall as well.
Josh Stapley (40:40) held off Andrew MacKenzie by just two seconds in the battle to be the third male contender home.
North said he had to dig deep over the race’s opening leg.
“I had my work cut out for me in the swim. Andrew and Josh really pushed the pace early. I made spurt at the 150 metre mark and managed to get a bit of a gap and I managed to hold it from there,” he said.
“I tried to put the hammer down on the bike because I knew Dean would be coming hard and fast. I managed to keep the gap going into the run and held it from there.
“I had a really great swim and on the bike I was little fatigued in the legs, but still felt alright. I’ve been working on the run a little more so it felt like a really consistent race all round and I was happy with how I felt.”
The race, named in memory of club foundation members Dave Carroll and Dave Scott, is one which North circles on the calendar early in the season.
“I’d love to keep coming back to participate in this race, even if I don’t win it, I’d still want to be in it,” he said.
“I never got to know Dave Carroll well but Dave Scott was one of the reasons I got into the sport. He helped me there for a few years. He’s on the trophy with [former race winner] Richard Hobson, who coaches me, so to be on the trophy with them means a lot to me.”
North had an advantage of just nine seconds over MacKenzie at the conclusion of the swim leg but after that didn’t looked troubled on his way to another memorial race triumph.
The eventual winner was the fastest contender overall across both the swim (3:48) and bike (23:18) legs. However, the fastest run leg belonged to MacKenzie (8:36).
Windsor emerged from the pool exactly one minute behind MacKenzie but on two wheels he made his move with a 23:27 bike leg.
Mark Windsor secured the Bathurst club’s male long course champion title for the 2016-17 season.
Andrew Knox claimed the men’s short course season champion award.
