His speedy two year old filly Lucy Rose took out the $100,000 State Wide Sheds Wellington Boot
In 1992 Frank Cleary won the Boot with Danza Dark.
Danza Dark was owned by Guam based American businessman Ken Jones Jnr. who travelled to Wellington to see Danza Dark ridden by Malcolm Johnston defeat Moville Dancer and Double Zero.
Ridden a tremendous race by Cowra jockey Mathew Cahill in the 2017 Boot, Lucy Rose ($8) overcame the outside barrier in the 1100 metres sprint to lead most of the way for a three quarters of a length win over Princess Lottie (Belinda Hodder, $15).
Boyish (Bobby El-Issa, $7) finishing third.
Previous Wellington Boot winners for Mathew Cahill were Jackpot Queen (2011) and Gold Bender (2012).
Mathew Cahill was also aboard Lake Lugarno, brilliant winner of the $45,000 Wellington Town Plate for Forbes trainer Barry Molloy.
Now with the imposing record of seven wins and four placings from 12 starts, the four year old mare Lake Lugarno ($2.40 favourite) shared the lead with Don't Tease Me.
The mare then accelerated for a dashing win in fast time by over two lengths over Polskie Prince (Bobby El-Issa, $26) and Danish Lace (Kaylee Kirkwood, $4.80)
Distinctive Look trained at Mudgee by David Smith and Galaxy Warrior also trained at Mudgee, by Gayna Williams, are off to Royal Randwick for the $400,000 Country Championship.
This is due to them filling the first two placings in the $150,000 CDRA Qualifier (1400 metres) at Wellington.
Producing a powerful finish from midfield, Distinctive Look (Koby Jennings, $6) won by a long neck from Galaxy Warrior (Allan Chau, $4.20 fav.) with the Cameron Crockett, Mudgee trained Jar Of Hearts (Greg Ryan, $5) a short head away, third.
Art'N'Ollie (Mathew Cahill, $15) from the Dean Mirfin stable at Bathurst was a game fourth after setting the pace.
Cowra jockey Michael Travers brought the Gratz Vella, Canberra trained American Time ($13) with a well timed run to win the Peter Milling and Company $80,000 Wellington Cup (1700 metres) from Pippi's Pride (Leanne Henry, $17) and the pacemaker Uncle Sugar, Mikayla Weir, $17)
Greg Ryan rode a winning treble,Loose Goose ($2 fav.), Western Parade ($4 fav.) and Turf Tapper ($3 fav.).
