OPINION: Parade takes a lighter look at life in Bathurst and surrounds

PARADE is told the motorcycles will be roaring into life in Bathurst on Sunday for the annual Black Dog Ride One Dayer, a national event in which thousands of riders hit the road to raise awareness of depression and suicide prevention, while raising funds for mental health charities.

The Bathurst leg will, once again, be in support of Lifeline Central West.

Parade is told the route for this year will take in some great bike roads heading from Bathurst to Orange via Cowra and Canowindra.

To get everyone in the mood, a Motorcycle Show and Shine and charity auction will be held on Saturday at The Panorama Hotel.

Entry registrations will be taken from 2pm and there will be prizes and the auction from 5pm.

Merchandise will be available for sale, including Winston the black dog mascot for the Black Dog Ride.

Check in for the Bathurst ride will be at the Mount Panorama Pit Complex on Sunday, where breakfast, from Bathurst Lions, will be available from 8am.

Ready for a long overdue soaking

IF the forecast is to be believed, the dry January and February at Parade’s place is about to be replaced by a wet March.

Parade seemed to spend most of the last two-thirds of summer out in the backyard with a hose in hand desperately trying to keep everything alive.

The end of the extremely hot weather made avoiding unnecessary plant deaths a bit easier, but the ingredient that was still missing was rain – as Parade’s gasping, patchy, embarrassingly brown front lawn made clear.

Well, March is looking like it might deliver.

Parade has already had some handy totals this month from the showers of the last week or so, but next week looks set to deliver the real payload that Parade’s lawn has been seeking.

Parade has already had the experience once this week and is hoping it will happen again next week: is there anything nicer than waking up to the sound of rain falling on the plants outside your bedroom window?
