Trees bearing the names of David Mills, Maurice McNeil, James McLaren, Beryl McLeay, Jonathan Lewis and Maureen Lewis have had their branches snapped off and trunks splintered.
Weatherzone meteorologist Graeme Brittain said Bathurst experienced strong south-easterly winds Friday and overnight through to Saturday morning.
“Wind gusts were generally above 30 kilometres [Friday] night,” he said.
“It is a strong wind gust. It is fast enough to snap off a few branches off trees.”
Bathurst mayor Graeme Hanger was saddened to hear of what happened to the trees and said council will address the situation at the earliest opportunity.
“It is disappointing that the wind was so strong and council will do all in their power to rectify the situation as soon as possible,” he said.
