Stone Cracker took out the opening 1,730 metres heat of this year’s Gold Crown series for two-year-old colts and geldings on Saturday night at the Bathurst Paceway to qualify for the Group 1 decider.
Three years ago his brother Mark won the Group 1 Gold Tiara with Makes Every Scents, while fellow sibling Bernie claimed the 2015 Gold Bracelet when his filly Read About Lexy was first home.
But now David has a shot at snaring his own gold trophy, Stone Cracker ($4.70) having clocked a handy 1:57.3 mile rate in winning his heat.
The Stonebridge Regal x Cinderella Girl gelding sat in the trail for much of the journey before getting off the pegs and charging down the straight. He won by 5¼m over Benalong Valley ($4.20).
