RDA received a grant from council to the value of $4400, at the recommendation of the Bathurst Regional Access Committee, which the facility used to build a new footpath.
The path joins up with another that was installed two years ago and leads down to the paddocks from the pet therapy shed.
It cost just under $9000 to install, with RDA putting up the remainder of the funds.
RDA worker Darren Gavin said it was a project that had been thought about for some time.
“We’ve been doing pet therapy for about six years, so it was the grand plan to make everything as accessible as possible,” he said.
“It gives [clients] more freedom; they don’t need a helper to get down a rough paddock.”
Mayor Graeme Hanger inspected the new path on Friday and was pleased to see the grant used for something so beneficial.
“We are happy to assist in a situation like this,” he said. “So many people will get a benefit out of it and will appreciate it.”
This is the second time RDA has received a grant from council after a recommendation from BRAC.
“They are one of only two groups in the 10 years I’ve been on the committee that have had the courtesy to show us photos of what they’ve done with the money,” chairman Bob Triming said.
