Around 520 year four children from schools all across Bathurst attended.
In what was a colourful, mainly green performance, children were educated about reducing waste to landfill by using composting, recycling and worm farms.
Ian McColm, who plays King of Green, said they give the children permission to interact with them.
“It gives them the freedom to open up,” he said.
“The king is a ditz and kids love to correct adults.
“It re-enforces what they have learned here and at school and hopefully they go home and tell their parents.
“There’s a lot of fun elements [in the show], with kids getting out of their seats and doing actions and singing along.”
Mr McColm and Juliet Scrine, who plays Queen of Green, both work at the Eaton Gorge Theatre Company and have been playing their characters for nine years.
“We mainly perform in regional NSW, but we’ve also worked in Sydney,” Mr Colm said.
He said it is important to ingrain a good recycling habit into children because “we’ve got to do everything we can for the planet”.
