Most people would think the festival is limited to an endurance race, the B2B itself, but there is so much more happening over the course of three days.

The festival will start with the Family Fun Challenge at Mount Panorama Friday afternoon.

Bathurst Cycling Club president Mark Simons said it is a great event to introduce young riders to the sport.

“We’ve got a little skills course that we’ll send the little kids around … just to make sure they are capable and happy riding, and then we’re going to send them out in their age groups,” he said.

Riders will complete a circuit, starting from the pit garage, and get laps crossed off as they pass the start line.

Mr Simons said older children will complete 10 laps, while the younger riders will do three laps.

“We’re hoping to get a stack of kids there for that. Mums and dads can come and ride as well, but because it is a closed circuit, we don’t need the mums and dads to ride as much because the cycling club will have marshals there riding around with the kids,” he said.

The Family Fun Challenge will be held from 3.30pm on Friday and finish at 6pm.

On Saturday, the cycling festival action will continue with three events.

First is the Hill Climb Challenge from 8.30am in Harris Park at Mount Panorama.

At 9am, criterium racing will get underway at the pit complex at the mount.

Finally, twilight racing will return to Bathurst from 4pm, seeing riders make their way through the streets surrounding Kings Parade. 

Motorists will be unable to park on these streets from 6am and there will be no traffic access from noon to 11pm.

On Sunday, the first riders in the B2B race will make their way out of Blayney from 8.30am, competing in either the 110km long course or 70km short course. 

The B2B is also a qualifier for the Union Cycliste International (UCI) Gran Fondo World Championships, which has helped to attract more riders to the city.
