Using the crucial section of the B2B course, on top of Rockley Mount, the championship attracted some of the Bathurst Cycling Club riders, who used the event as preparation for this weekend’s cycling event.
GPM Stulz Team dominated the A grade title, with teammates Will Hodges and Josh Corcoran finishing first and second respectively.
Hodges, the classy Cowra cyclist, recorded a time of 14 minutes and 29:90 seconds to defeat Corcoran by a mere 3.8 seconds and took home his first Bathurst Open Mens A Grade Championship.
After finishing fifth, behind Windsor in 2016, it was young GPM Stulz rider Josh Corcoran who surprised many.
Corcoran’s impressive improvement in the last 12 months saw him catch New South Wales Elite Mens Track Cycling medalist Jayson Austin and set a new fastest time.
It was defending 2016 champion Windsor that set the quickest time, after last week’s race winner Brad Rayner, of the Park Tools Team, messed up a crucial gear change on the steeper part of the climb.
Jono Culter recorded an impression win, in B grade, over Steve Scott and Steve Jackson, with Nathan Maher and Tim Roebuck rounding out the top five.
Hayden Booth claimed victory in C grade, over Dan Kirby and Dave Reece.
Bathurst Masters champion Rosemary Hastings was the winner in D grade.
