The Bathurst fitness guru has won through to the regional finals of the 2017 CrossFit Games tournament, blitzing the open stage of the competition to qualify as one of 30 females out of the Australia and New Zealand region.
Bathurst Crossfit owner Dan George says his team – which was the largest out of NSW competing in the initial stages of the CrossFit Games – was right behind Corby as she lept from a rank of 33rd heading into the final of five rounds and finished the grueling competition in 25th.
George says Corby’s ability to push through the pain barrier was a sight to behold.
And it’s a trait she’ll have to call on when she takes on the best 40 female athletes out of the Asia Pacific region on May 19.
“Her work ethic is brilliant,” George said.
“She has that ability to push through when it hurts and that’s what has gotten her this far.”
The open, the section Corby just blitzed, is the first stage of the CrossFit Games season and the largest community event of the year.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of athletes come together to compete in the worldwide, online competition, run over five weeks.
The set was released from CrossFit HQ on Fridays at 12pm, with competitors then give until Tuesday to submit a validated score.
“It’s the unknown factor,” George said, identifying what makes the program so tough.
“You know the basic movements that they’re after, but there’s no knowing what the recipe will be and how many reps you’ll need to do.”
“We’re stoked (Corby is through). I think we all had goosebumps when she was doing that last round.
“We had the largest participation rate of any gym in NSW and the support everyone received doing the five weeks was great.
