Last year's show went ahead without the shearing but organisers are happy its back, saying it is a major draw card not only for the region’s young shearers competing in the state-wide circuit, but for anyone with an interest in agriculture.

Bathurst based shearer Dan Taylor said the judges take into account a number of criteria when judging, including how many second cuts are made in the wool, to judging the sheep out the back for nicks in their skin.

Head steward, Kate Stanford, said shearers from all over the region would be competing at the Royal Bathurst Show. 

“They’re coming from Dubbo, the South Coast and Yass.

“We’re looking to get at least 40 shearers competing.”

She said visitors to the show love watching the shearing, and it’s a great way to showcase the industry.

She said the Bathurst competition has in previous years, always been hotly contested given it’s the third last show before circuit shearing grand final, being held in Dubbo.

“It’s great to be able to bring it back and keep developing the competition,” she said.
