Beyond Belief: The Sublime In Contemporary Art draws together 14 works by 10 Australian artists that are all on loan to the local gallery.
They range from a giant inflatable sneaker to a table of plenty expertly carved from a single piece of wood and a naked man hanging from the wall.
The exhibition has been curated by BRAG director Richard Perram who said he was not looking for a single thematic thread to link the pieces.
“I am looking for an emotional response to each of the works,” Mr Perram said.
“I have been thinking about some of these works for 10 years or more and bit by bit I’ve been able to put the exhibition together.
“The works have changed over time and there were some works I couldn’t get so it can be quite complex.
“In the end, though, they are works that will each make people see things in different ways.”
The works in Beyond Belief cover a range of artistic styles including sculpture, video and a three-dimensional painting.
The exhibition will remain on show at BRAG until Saturday, June 4. For more information, phone 6333 6555.
