In the midst of defeat, Culey was upbeat and said it was a competitive race
“Quite a big group went early and we were rolling through reasonably well. Then the car came up and said we had about four minutes.” he said.
“As long as we didn’t do anything stupid, the winner was going to come from that group. We had a bit of fun and games going on over the hill, with everyone not committing and eventually we got a group of five roll in.
“With about three kilometres to go, Rowan from Olivers decided to stop pulling turns. So it turned into his own doing because I hit it.
“Then Dylan [Sunderland] came across to me in that final little hill and then we went for it.
“I knew he is a better sprinter than me, so I wanted to stay away from the other three and we came round me at the finish.”
