According to the safety investigations and reports on the bureau’s website, an investigation into the incident is active after the pilot was seriously injured in the crash about 11.28am.
However, it appears elements of the report may be incorrect.
While the Western Advocate understands there was a hard landing, no one was injured and it took just five minutes for the plane to be cleared.
Police, NSW Fire and Rescue and paramedics were not called to the scene and the airport was operational again within 30 minutes of the incident occurring.
In its online report the bureau stated the aircraft landed hard and sustained substantial damage, with the pilot seriously injured.
It said a passenger, also in the light aircraft, was not injured.
As part of the investigation the ATSB will interview the pilot and gather additional information, and a report into the incident is expected in August.
The Cessna involved in the incident was being used by a private operator, and had left Broken Hill with Bathurst as its destination.
No further information or clarification was available late Monday evening.
