Bathurst Regional Council has called for designers to submit plans for a second motorsport track at Mount Panorama, and said it must cater to motor vehicle and motorcycle racing.
However, preliminary track designs released in council’s Expression of Interest (EoI) document show corners will be too tight, and straights too long, Mount Panorama Second circuit Action Group member Bruce Morgan said.
He said motorcycle racing needs sweeping, rather than tight, corners.
“Some of these corners [in the preliminary plan] are first-gear corners which are not great for spectators,” Mr Morgan said.
They’ve only got one chance at this … they need to talk to motorbike people about it.

He said a track similar to the one on Phillip Island in Victoria would be ideal, and if designers for the new circuit “consult the right people it’ll turn out pretty good”.
“They’ve only got one chance at this … they need to talk to motorbike people about it,” Mr Morgan said.
“If you design a motorcycle track you can race cars on it, but if you design a car track you can’t race bikes on it.”
The EoI shows the new circuit will be located to the western side of McPhillamy and Reid parks, and below the ridge where the existing clay target club is located.
Mr Morgan did, however, commend council on the location of the new track and said it was “ideal”.
“Most [motorcycle racing] facilities in NSW have been killed by noise restrictions and urban growth,” he said.
“It’s one of the best things to happen to Bathurst, it’ll bring people to town and it’s out of the way.”
