But it’s another debutant who has the green and golds excited ahead of the 2017 premier league season.
CYMS junior Lachlan Munro will play his first top grade competition game against St Pat’s this weekend, the talented half set to make the grade as a centre come Sunday.
Munro has proven up to the task throughout pre-season training and trials and says his transition from gun junior to first grader has been made easier thanks to the leaders at the club.
“A lot of the players, there’s a lot of leaders at the club; Mick, Macca and Mort,” Munro said, with captain-coach Mick Sullivan, fullback Ben McAlpine and lock Tim Mortimer singled out.
“They’re all really good around the club and help the juniors out a lot.”
The 19-year-old didn’t envisage being in this situation, not this early in the season.
“I thought if I keep playing well I’d get the chance one day, but it’s great. It’s good to get the chance finally,” he added.
Kiwi Bamford will line-up in a new-look frontrow with Cam Jones and hooker Ryan Griffin, while Brock McGarity lines up in the backrow after CYMS lost Mitch Davis to Forbes.
Luke Petrie has been named at five-eighth while Goodwin and Lasagavibau are on Sullivan’s bench to start the season.
It’s been challenging but it’s easy with the guys we’ve got at the club.
- CYMS centre Lachie Munro on playing in the top grade
Munro was confident CYMS will come out firing after a grueling pre-season.
“It’s been challenging, but it’s easy with the guys we’ve got at the club. Everyone is really helpful and easy to get along with,” he said.
The part-time life guard isn’t daunted by being named in the centres.
He played there throughout CYMS’ Bathurst Knockout campaign and enjoyed the change of position.
“I don’t mind it. I like the centres. I played there a little bit in the trials and it was good fun, got a few good passes. I don’t mind it,” he added.
Premier league kicks off at 2.30pm on Sunday, while league tag against the gun St Pat’s girls will begin at 10.30am.
Munro was expecting a tough debut.
“We know they’re a good team and a big pack, we’ve just got to come out and win the middle.”
