This morning’s 6 Hour field has broken the field record for an endurance event at Mount Panorama.

There were 64 cars on the grid on Sunday morning, beating the previous record by one car.

Prior to the 2017 6 Hour, the record grid was recorded three times: first in the 1969 Hardie Ferodo 500, then in the 1978 Hardie Ferodo 1000 and finally in the 1984 James Hardie 1000.

Fourteen major endurance races had seen starting grids of 60 or more cars in the history of Mount Panorama before Sunday’s race.
