Set down for April 22-24, the event is once again expected to bring some of the state’s best to the colour city.
“Riders will travel from throughout New South Wales and even interstate to race some of all three events,” Cycling NSW chief executive officer Phil Ayres said.
“We have had 12 months for word to get around after the success of last year at the new location and believe even more of our masters riders will be keen to give it a go.
”The masters group – which takes in riders from 30 years up to 80 and even higher competing in five year age divisions – is our largest membership group and feature many state, national and world champions in their numbers.
“Some are new to cycling, having entered as masters, while others have already featured on the national and world stage in their younger years, but are still fast and competitive.’’
If last year is anything to go by, those riders will be seriously tested by the Bathurst Cytcling Club contingent.
Charlie Gascoyne won gold as did his Bathurst club-mate Bruce Goddard.
As well as that, Bathurst’s Mark Windsor, James Lavis, Graham Strait and Stacey Fish all claimed podium finishes.
Those riders and others from the club are expected to push for podiums once more.
The event will test riders in three championship events: the road race, criteriums and individual time trials.
“Our criteriums are again at the Astil Avenue Industrial Park and will once again provide a super-fast hot mix surface for racing around the 1.5km course,” Ayres said.
“This year there will be a new time trial course, with the same start area, but a little safer with an out and back course up to the Orange airport and back.“
“Orange is developing a growing reputation as a venue for serious cycling competitions, and the Masters titles are the latest in a series of major cycling titles to choose Orange in recent months,” Orange City Council sport and recreation committee chair Jason Hamling added.
