Five weeks into the season the Goldminers will enjoy match time at Bathurst Indoor Sports Stadium, where they face a meeting with the Goulburn Bears on Saturday night.
Goldminers will approach the game buoyed by two wins from their central venue double header last round in Minto.
Adding to what’s expected to be a great atmosphere at the Bathurst stadium is that the State League match will be taking place alongside Country Premier League basketball action.
“It’s going to be a great weekend and a great game with CPL on. The stadium should be packed,” Goldminers co-coach Kieran Purvis said.
“For our Western Reds girls to be able to see how players like Rachel Murray, Haylee Lepaio and Sophie Kleeman dominate the court is going to be great for improving their own game.
“Our first game against Coffs Harbour was a win by double figures, and they’ve been inside the top four consistently for years now … and then we went on to beat Maitland, who had a reasonably strong lineup.
Goulburn come into the game off a win and a loss from their two games last weekend.
Goldnminers dominated the Bears throughout last season but Purvis is expecting a stronger lineup this time around.
“Goulburn usually have a solid group of players who are there every year. They’ve got some players in this year who have been in state teams,” he said.
“We had a good look at them and the other teams during the central venue round. I feel like we’ve got the stronger team based on what we saw.”
Saturday’s match is the second game of the Goldminers men’s and women’s double header. The men’s side start at 4pm with the women’s match to follow at 6pm.
