Cancer Council has now cut off donations for this year’s relay and has announced a final figure, one that can make Bathurst proud.
A total of $104,304.72 was raised, an increase of $10,000 from 2016’s total.
Cancer Council Western NSW community relations co-ordinator Katherine Hodges said the figure raised is awesome.
“It’s phenomenal, amazing. The community really comes together to raise money,” she said.
“It’s also really good, considering we only had 603 entrants. It’s 50 more than last year, but we raised $10,000 extra.”
Relay for Life was held over March 11 and 12 at All Saints’ College.
People of all ages spent the night walking around Watson Oval and many camped out, in order to raise money for cancer.
Ken Barcham raised the most money, with $5003, while his wife, Jocelyn, raised the second-most money, with $3654.
The Daffys were the most successful team at Bathurst’s Relay For Life, raising over $14,000.
The money raised will be put back into the Bathurst community and Cancer Council will donate the money to both prevention and support donations.
Prevention groups include SunSmart, Sun Sound, Eat It To Beat It, Improve Your Long Game and Healthy Sports Initiative.
Support groups include Transport to Treatment, Cancer Information and Support Line, Pro Bono Legal and Financial Referral Service, Living Well After Cancer, Healthy Living After Cancer and Accommodation for cancer patients and carers.
All Saints’ College has confirmed that it is happy to host the event once again in 2018.
