Three-year-old Liam was diagnosed with Joubert Syndrome when his mother, Angela Wilkinson, was 27 weeks pregnant with him.
The condition affects his co-ordination, making everyday tasks like walking, talking and eating very challenging.
A trivia night was held at The Kelso Hotel on March 31 and featured a quiz and raffles.
The night itself raised $5000, but this figure was doubled with a generous donation from Dr Vijay Solank, a heart surgeon in Sydney.
“He was my partner’s nan’s heart surgeon and she told him about Liam and he said he wanted to help,” Ms Wilkinson said.
She was very appreciate of his kind donation and the efforts of everyone in the community.
“I can’t believe the amount of people who turned up on the night. We had about 130 people and we were only expecting maybe 50,” she said.
The money will be used to help pay for Liam’s trips to Sydney for doctors appointments and the fees to tube feed him, which are around $250 per month.
Ms Wilkinson said Liam is doing “pretty good” at the moment.
He will be undergoing surgery in the middle of May to have grommets put in and his adenoids removed.
The surgery was initially meant to occur several weeks ago, but as Liam had pneumonia at the time, it had to be rescheduled.
