Conducted around Orange and Molong, the Cycling NSW Masters Road Titles not only drew a strong contingent of Bathurst riders, but some of the best cyclists from across the state.
Across the age groups in the individual time trial, criterium and road race, Bathurst snared seven goal, one silver and two bronze medals, as well as a host of top-10 finishes.
Jim Lavis made it a clean sweep in the men’s masters 8 events, while Toireasa Gallagher and Jayson Austin twice stood on the podium.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever won a race,” Lavis said after the road race.
“We split into about half and half on the first hill and then two fellas did chase very well to get back to us, so we were seven.
“We worked very well to stay away and it just came down to a sprint finish, so it was good.”
Competing in the women’s masters 2 division, Gallagher won the time trial by almost 15 seconds and placed third in the criterium.
Austin was second in the men’s masters 4 road race and placed third to Lidcombe-Auburn club-mates in the time trial.
Laura Renshaw took out the women’s masters 1 road race, while both Charlie Gascoyne (men’s masters 5) and Mark Windsor (men’s masters 6) claimed gold in their time trial events.
