One of Australia’s best-loved forums for literature, ideas and storytelling, the Sydney Writers’ Festival will stream its headline events from Roslyn Packer Theatre in Walsh Bay direct to Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre (BMEC) from May 26-28 as part of the Bathurst Writers’ and Readers’ Festival.
Prepare to be stimulated and engaged by conversations, debates and discussions, as the festival brings the world’s finest authors to Bathurst in real time.
As well as hearing new ideas from great thinkers, audiences have the opportunity to participate in Q and A sessions at each event, sending questions direct to the Sydney stage.
Following the success of the program in 2016, the Sydney Writers’ Festival will continue to expand its horizons.
Live and Local, the digital live-streaming project, will bring festival sessions to cities and regional centres across the country.
The festival’s partners have chosen events from the 2017 program to live stream to their local community.
Audiences have the opportunity to ask questions of the guest authors in Sydney via a live feed.
In its third year, Live and Local will reach audiences across Australia with satellite venues in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia joining the conversation live via the digital live stream.
Live panels and workshops will also be running over the weekend at BMEC.
These will include Hill End’s Kim Deacon and Lino Alvarez in conversation with Sarah Gurich, and a writers’ workshop by author Kim Kelly.
A poetry slam will also be going ahead on the Saturday evening.
Our special guest this year is Julie Koh, author of Portable Curiosities.
Julie was born in Sydney to Chinese-Malaysian parents. Her short stories have appeared in The Best Australian Stories 2014 and 2015, The Sleepers Almanac, The Lifted Brow and Seizure Online.
We are also starting Bathurst’s biggest book club session: The Great Festival Read.
We are asking everyone to read The Dyehouse by Mena Calthorpe and this will be discussed by a panel on Sunday afternoon.
The Dyehouse is available at Books Plus and Bathurst City Library.
All sessions at the festival are free. The program is available from Books Plus and BMEC.
