Wayne Barnett, 27, of Croudace Road, Elermore Vale, appeared before magistrate Michael Allen in Bathurst Local Court last Monday.
Police facts tendered to the court told how Barnett damaged his former girlfriend’s house at around 3.30am on April 23.
On April 22, the victim told Barnett the relationship was over and he was to leave the house as soon as possible.
He asked if he could stay the night and catch the train to Sydney the following morning and the victim agreed and told him to pack his belongings in that time.
Later in the afternoon, Barnett became increasingly paranoid about the victim's behavior, asking if she would spend time with him that night as it would be their last together. The victim refused the request, which angered him further and he became verbally abusive to her.
Eventually he went into his room and the victim was able to sleep. At about 3.30am, the victim awoke to the sound of the smoke alarm sounding. She opened the windows and saw the accused fanning the smoke alarm. It eventually stopped and the victim walked back into the lounge room, where she had been sleeping, and tried to go back to bed.
Barnett walked into the lounge room and verbally abused the victim. She heard the cutlery drawer open and, believing the accused had picked up knives, the victim got up and confronted him.
Barnett threw several knives past the victim and towards the front window.
He picked up a red glass water bottle from the bench and hurled it towards the front window, smashing it, and threw a bowl of noodles at a second window, smashing it, before punching the wall and creating a hole in the gyprock.
Police attended and the victim provided a videoed statement. Barnett was arrested and made full admissions to throwing the knives, smashing the windows and punching the wall.
On the destroy or damage property, he was imprisoned from April 23 to June 22, and is eligible for release on June 22, 2017.
On the common assault he was imprisoned for four months and is eligible for release on August 22, 2017.
