Hope May Annis-Brown, 26, of View Street in Kelso appeared in person before magistrate Michael Allen in Bathurst Local Court last week facing a charge of drive while licence suspended.
Police facts tendered to the court told how Annis-Brown was the holder of NSW provisional driver’s licence, which was suspended from January 13, 2017 until April 12, 2017 for a demerit point suspension.
The court heard at around noon on on Saturday, March 11, Annis-Brown drove her motor vehicle to the Bathurst Correctional Centre in Browning Street.
At the time the accused had another female passenger and small child in the vehicle.
The female passenger was required to return home and change clothing and the accused drove away from the jail and returned a short time later, at around 12.30pm.
Annis-Brown then entered the correctional centre to visit an inmate when she was taken for a search of her belongings by Correctional Services officers.
Police also spoke to Annis-Brown and checks were conducted on her licence and it was found it was in fact suspended.
The accused was informed of this and she said “yeah, I know”.
When they asked how she knew her licence was suspended she said she had “called state debt recovery and they told me”.
Mr Allen convicted Annis-Brown under Section 10A.
Her licence was also disqualified by Mr Allen for a period of 12 months from the date of the driving offence.
