Executive secretary, with the Bathurst Agricultural, Horticultural and Pastoral Association Brett Kenworthy, said organisers were absolutely thrilled with this year’s show, with ticket sales reflecting a large increase in the number of young people attending.
“So far it’s been very good, both Friday and Saturday were line ball or better than last year, and last year was a very good show.
“Friday was as good as last year and Saturday night was better then last year on dollar terms and that’s how we measure it.
“Numbers are harder to calculate so we go by the dollar amount on gate takings,” he said.
What the gate takings did reflect, which was a bonus for organisers was a significant increase in the number of children’s tickets sold, reflecting the new generation embracing the show and all it has to offer.
“The kid’s tickets were up, way up,” Mr Kenworthy said.
“We were calling Saturday night the kid’s show.
“Concession tickets were also up and families were up, which was great.”
He said increasing numbers of young people through the gate wasn’t the only way the next generation were embracing the show movement.
Mr Kenworthy said the Young Farmers Challenge, held Saturday afternoon and led by Megan Porter was a highlight at the show, with the whole thing conducted by young people.
“The eldest person involved in 18, most of them were involved in the junior stewards training program which we began three or four years ago,” he said.
“The Stannies team won it, but it had 10 or 11 teams involved,” he said.
Another area of growth was the Rural Young Achievers, which attracted 70 entrants.
President of the Bathurst AH and P, Sam Farraway reinforced Mr Kenworthy’s comments saying the weather was great, as were the exhibitions and competitions.
“The significant increase in children’s tickets was great, given we’re not in school holiday’s at the moment.
He said the feedback was fabulous.
“People were saying they loved the atmosphere and the layout of the grounds and there is plenty to see and do with free events.
“The fireworks were absolutely awesome.”
As for highlights he said it was impossible to name just one.
“What keeps us going is the smile on people’s faces and seeing the kids have fun.”
He said planning was already underway for next year’s show which will be the 150th Royal Bathurst Show.
“It will be special,” he said.
