Roads across our region continue to improve in quality and safety thanks to the Roads to Recovery program. I joined the Federal Member for Calare Andrew Gee on Wednesday to inspect the widening and sealing on Gorman’s Hill Road. The project is part of the $8 million Roads to Recovery funding from the Federal Government.

This Sunday we will celebrate Proclamation Day. I would like to invite everyone in the community to come and take part in the celebration that marks the anniversary of the day Bathurst was proclaimed a settlement. The Living Legends will be announced at 10am followed by the Pillars of Bathurst Ceremony at 11am.
I would also like to encourage people to wander along the Delightful Spot trail to learn about Bathurst’s history on self-guided tours. Local historian, Rob McLachlan will introduce the tours and be available to help people discover the best parts of Bathurst.

Think of privacy first before you post online
THIS week marks the beginning of Privacy Awareness Month 2017 with a reminder to social media users to use common-sense when posting pictures or video of loved ones online.
Taking privacy precautions means protecting not just your own personal information, but also that of your family and friends. Using smart devices, mobile apps and online services is convenient and fun. However, it’s important to remember to protect your privacy and at the same time consider how your online activity might affect the people you care about.
There are laws in NSW around the collection, storage, use and accessing of personal and health information, and Privacy Awareness Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness of these laws.
Privacy Awareness Month encourages you to think before you post, ask before you upload, and remember: if you can’t say it to their face, don’t say it in cyberspace!
Solar deal
SOLAR households and businesses in NSW could receive higher prices for the power they feed-in to the grid, following this week’s release of a new draft tariff by IPART.
The draft determination doubles the previous tariff of 5.5-7.2 cents per kilowatt hour, proposing an increase to 11.6 - 14.6 c/kWh. Importantly, the tariff is not subsidised by other energy users so it won’t increase power prices but will help deliver lower bills for NSW’s 350,000 solar households.

THE NSW Government has joined forces with the nation’s leading rugby league bodies to announce a historic two-year partnership to save more lives on country roads.
Someone is killed or injured in a crash on our roads every 85 minutes - about the same time it takes to play a game of rugby league. Of the 384 lives lost on NSW roads in 2016, 254 died on country roads.
You’re five times more likely to be killed in the country than in our big cities and this government is committed to doing everything we can to save lives on country roads.
This year there will be a record spend of $253 million on road safety initiatives in NSW and people in the country can expect to see additional education and awareness campaigns. The Knock-on Effect campaign talks to the harrowing effects road trauma is having on local communities.
The campaign gets under way this week as the NRL Country Roadshow visits schools and communities in Sydney, Orange, Bathurst and Mudgee ahead of the NRL City v Country match in Mudgee on Sunday.
