A little over a year ago her beloved father died from anaplastic thyroid cancer – a very aggressive cancer that killed him just 10 months after he was diagnosed.
“You feel so helpless, you can’t do anything for that person,” she said.
“I didn’t like that feeling so I wanted to give back.”
So, this Saturday she has organised a community fundraiser which also includes a host of stalls and a silent auction.
On the day, she will also have 95 centimetres of her hair cut off as a fundraiser.
All funds raised will go to Cancer Council NSW, while her hair will be donated Pantene Beautiful Lengths to make wigs for groups like Daffodil Cottage in Bathurst.
“I’ve never had short hair in my life,” Ms Kilby said. “I’m a bit nervous, but excited too.”
An artwork by Dean Mobbs will be among the auction items. There will also be a Mother’s Day stall with handmade crafts and treats.
“You can have a tea, coffee and a biscuit for a gold coin donation,” Ms Kilby said.
The fundraiser is on at the Perthville Community Hall from 10am until noon this Saturday.
Ms Kilby has raised almost $1000 so far towards her goal of $1500.
