Despite trailing 1-0 early on, the blue and golds equalised and then shot to a two-goal lead, one they didn’t give up.
The victory pushes Ex-Services into fifth on the women’s Premier League Hockey table, the side would be in the top three had it not been for a loss of four competition points after round one.
But, the Orange side has fought its way back from that setback and proved it should once again be among the top sides in the process.
Welcoming back Australian masters representative Leanne Kennewell, who was named best on field by one of the umpires, Ex-Services conceded in the second minute when Daisy Morrissey found the back of the net.
It proved to be little more than a speed-hump for the blue and golds though, Barrett brought the game back to level pegging with a 17th minute penalty corner, despite mishitting her initial attempt.
Duboc, the side’s skipper, gave Ex-Services a 2-1 lead just nine minutes later when she found the back of the net, before the sides exchanged chances but couldn’t add to the scoreline any further in the later stages of the half.
After the break Souths lifted and created chances – including hitting the post – but the visitors could not crack Ex-Services’ defence.
Jade Williams added Ex-Services’ third 20 minutes from full-time.
