This year’s book fair will give book readers and hoarders a chance to get their hands on as many books as possible, with over 22,000 ready to be sold on the weekend.
Lifeline executive officer Alex Ferguson said the weekend is a great chance to buy and stock up on books.
“People come in mad, like off a leash. They know their books,” he said.
“The books are all sorted into sections; fiction, biographies, war. We’re getting smarter [at sorting the books], but it takes the team about two month to sort through them.
“There’s something for everyone and even old collectables.”
Lifeline chairman Bill Miller said all the funds will go to further training and skill upgrades for the charity’s volunteers.
“They deal with mental health issues and they its required to upgrade them to new standard,” he said.
“We always get a churn of telephone councillors. It’s a simple equation, if you need answers, you need people.
“It’s the seventh year for the book fair. All funds are used locally, in the Central West.
“There’s always the familiar faces each year and everyone is looking for a bargain. All the books are sorted into categories – fiction, non-fiction, war, biographies, kids, Australiana, history.”
It’s not just books that are on sale at the Bathurst Showground, with DVDs, CDs and vinyl records available for purchase.
Eftpos will also be available at the book fair.
Volunteers will be assisted by by inmates at the Bathurst Jail on the weekend.
“We get assistance from the honour house of the jail and those there are in the process of release. They’ll help pack and unpack and their help is always greatful,” Mr Ferguson said.
Gates will open at 9am and close at 4pm on Saturday and gates will open at 10am and close at 2pm on Sunday.
Ten volunteers will man the fair on each day.
