The work of volunteers in this country often goes un-noticed and some interesting facts emerge about volunteers during this time.
Are you aware that there are close to six million people volunteering annually in Australia in many fields, which equates to a little over 25 per cent of the population.
Those volunteers and the organisations and groups they represent, mainly in the not for profit sector, contribute an estimated $290 billion in economic and social contribution to the Australian economy each year, more than the communication, agriculture and tourism industries.
Australian volunteers contribute around 700 million hours of unpaid time each year to local communities and the economic value is also matched by the social and cultural benefits to society.
36 percent of women and 32 percent of men volunteer with those figures a little higher in regional areas compared to that of city dwellers.
2MCE has around one hundred volunteers involved in providing the local community radio service, with some 20,000 volunteers participating in community broadcasting nationwide.
So we salute all volunteers for their achievements. If you would like to become a 2MCE volunteer give us a call on 6338 4790.

John’s quiz
IF you enjoy a good quiz to get the grey matter going, each Tuesday morning John O’Connell comes up with some intriguing questions in his 7.50am pop quiz.
The topics vary, the answers are sometimes open to interpretation but the result is always entertaining and the final question is always of a musical nature and I dare you to come up with a correct answer as John’s musical taste at times is unusual to say the least.
There’s no prizes just the satisfaction of outwitting the grey fox himself as he challenges both the left and right sides of our brains during Tuesday breakfast 7am to 9am on 92.3 2MCE.
