The match pits together two of the finalists from last year’s State League season, and the pair were always hard to split in 2016.
In their three meetings last year two draws unfolded and the Mariners picked up a 2-1 win in the remaining clash.
This year’s results so far suggest another close contest could take place in Mudgee.
However, it’s a new season and a chance for the Mariners to assert their dominance over the Lions.
“We’ve got to go into the this match treating them the same way we did against Mount Druitt and St George, respecting what they’ve got on the day,” Mariners coach Jason Payne said.
“Uni were reasonably strong last year so that’s on my mind. We’ll give them the respect they deserve.”
Mariners are after a similar brand of football which took them to a 9-1 success over the Mount Druitt Town Rangers FC last round.
Payne said lots of link up play began to click in that victory.
“Poorsha McPhillamy has been playing really well as the holding midfielder. She’s only 15, going on 16, and getting stronger,” he said.
“Her linking up with Teegan Courtney is becoming a great combination.
“As long as the girls stick to their game plan of playing short and sharp then we’ll do well.”
This will be the last match against an unknown opponent for the Mariners before they return in the following round to the start of the draw.
