Western scored two tries from deft little grubber kicks in behind the line during a thrilling 18-14 win over Monaro in round one.
Armstrong says it’s a tactic he’s hoping the Rams girls will turn to again in round two against Riverina at West Wyalong on Saturday.
“It’s a good little play in league tag, it’s not really seen a lot,” Armstrong said.
On both occasions, the kick came from the right boot of Orange Hawks gun Bec Ford, Bears speedster Sophie Stammers leaping on the first to score while Ford jumped on her own little grubber for the second try.
Armstrong was predicting a more cohesive Western outfit, one keen to improve on the couple of defensive lapses that allowed Monaro back into last week’s opening round clash at Cowra’s Sid Kallas Oval.
It’s a good little play in league tag.

“Our one-on-one tagging let us down. That’s something we’ll talk about. I thought if we tagged a bit better against Monaro we win by a few more points,” Armstrong said.
Rams welcome Dubbo CYMS talent Rikka Lamb back into the squad for the Riverina clash. The young outside back was away with work commitments for the first round.
