RSPCA Bathurst president Margie Gaal said the day is a great family occasion.
“It gives dog owners a chance to be with their pets in the public arena,” she said.
“They can show off their dogs to everyone.”
Ms Gaal said the RSPCA have not set a target for money raised.
“We’re happy with whatever we make,” she said.
“We’ll put it towards animal welfare in the Bathurst area. We also conduct major programs like the de-sexing program with vets and the RSPCA.”
People were given free dog treats and poop bags and water was made available for all canines.
The Hagney family brought along their two dogs – Marquez and Meg.
Marquez has quite a fascinating story, considering she was born a male.
“[Marquez] was crying one night and they found a bladder stone. It was too big and they couldn’t get it out,” Bec Hagney said.
Marquez went in for surgery, that went for five hours and saved the dog’s life. It also meant she went in a male and came out a female.
A total figure raised is expected to be announced in the coming days.
