PARADE has been sworn to secrecy about the senior council staffer [acting director, actually] who hit a spot of bother while away for work last week.

Our man was in Newcastle for a local government flood conference and had checked into his hotel before having to hastily change rooms.
The reason? His room had flooded – at the flood conference.
But you didn’t read it here.
Book it in for a date with mayor
MAYOR Graeme Hanger enjoyed a long career as a school teacher before retiring last year, but he will be calling on all that experience during one of his mayoral engagements this week.
Cr Hanger has been roped in as the guest reader for a local National Simultaneous Storytime event at Bathurst Library.
He will be reading this year’s book, “The Cow Tripped over the Moon” by Tony Wilson and Laura Wood, to an eager room of young children and, to add to the fun, there will be cow masks to colour in and prizes donated by Books Plus for best mask.
Other stories and rhymes will be read by the library team.
National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual campaign that aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books.
Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Autralian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
It’s all happening at 11am on Wednesday.
City basking in autumn’s beauty
PARADE was more than happy to feel a little let down by the weather forecast over the weekend.
While we were told to expect wet, bleak conditions over most of the two days, Mother Nature delivered two stunning autumn days and reasonably mild nights.
It was exactly the sort of weather that has many locals convinced autumn is the best time of the year in Bathurst, and it’s hard to argue with that.
Winter is coming, but hopefully not for a while yet.
