Goldminers not only maintained their unbeaten home record with the win but found revenge on the Magic who had bested the Bathurst men in a highly-physical encounter earlier in the season.
“Everything went to plan for us. We talked about the need to play physical basketball and to be brutal if we had to be,” a thrilled Goldminers coach Andrew Osborn said.
“When you look at the averages they have Will Campbell in fourth, with 22 points per game, and Will Cranston kept him to just nine points, so he did a fantastic job.
“We nullified everything they had in attack and we kept our energy up all game. The work that we did on Wednesday night at training, where we made some small adjustments in offence, worked wonders for us.
“The referees let us play but called what needed to be called. It was a fast, free-flowing game from both sides.”
A big first quarter, where Goldminers blew out to a 22-9 lead, set up the win.
Bathurst were able to maintain that intensity throughout the game to slowly extend the margin and suffocate the Magic’s scoring opportunities.
Matt Gray top scored with 32 points while Will Cranston picked up 20.
