Trained by Forbes’ Raymond Smith, Bella Mist ($3.10) battled with Formula One ($19.60) in the early stages of the Ladbrokes Appreciation Stakes 0-2 Wins Stakes (520 metres) but flew home across the back half to win with ease.
Formula One got out strongly from box one and carried a small two length break over Bella Mist into the back straight.
Bella Mist found the gap down the inside at the race’s halfway mark, as Formula One drifted wide.
From that point on the race belonged to Smith’s runner.
The final margin was 8.25m. Bella Mist won in a time of 30.15 seconds.
Race favourite Packey Keeping ($3) was a further three lengths away in third.
It’s only been two starts so far for the young Cosmic Rumble bitch but Smith has been pleased with what he’s seen from her so far.
“I’ve only had her for about a month. She’s settled in, has had a few runs now and has been getting better with every run,” he said.
“We’ll just through the grades with her and see how we go.”
Smith also claimed a win later in the Bathurst meeting with Big Daddy Dee in the Ladbrokes Challenge Stayers Heat Two (700m).
