Titled the Great Walk Foundation, which is now in its tenth year, the walkers left from the Knickerbocker Hotel on a fresh Tuesday morning, dressed in bright orange foundation jerseys.
Stops at Blackheath and Wentworth Falls are ahead, before the walkers finish at the Lapstone Hotel on May 27.
“It’ll take five days,” walker Robbie Wearn said.
“We’d like to break the $1 million mark [in terms of money raised]. We’ve already given to several charities in Bathurst.”
If the team raises over $100,00 they will have raised $1 million across the past ten years.
Funds raised from the event are allocated to various charities and organisations and this year the foundation donated $5000 to the Kelso Community Centre.
Another $5000 has been donated towards the bus that takes cancer patients from Bathurst to Orange to be treated.
Knickerbocker owner Scott Macalister also donated two nights accommodation for the walkers to stay at the hotel on both Monday and Tuesday.
