Cold and flu symptoms during winter historically wipe out 1000 donors a day, putting a strain on supplies.
O-Negative is the universal type given to patients in emergencies, while O-Positive is the type that 39 per cent of Australians have.
The Blood Services hopes to see 8000 donors come forward before Friday, June 2, to prevent a shortage.
Red Cross Blood Service spokesman Shaun Inguanzo said winter is always a challenge.
“The number of people suffering cold and flu symptoms increases, limiting the number of regular donors who are able to give,” he said.
“We need others – in this case people with O Negative and O Positive blood – to take the place of those who will be unable to answer our call.”
The mobile donor centre is at Bathurst McDonalds until Thursday, May 25.
It will then be on Panorama Avenue from May 29 to May 31.
