It’s the second match in a row for the students against an Orange club after the competition leaders Emus were too good last week.
Despite going down 40-0 in Orange the students were able to keep pace with Emus throughout the second half, and it’s that brand of rugby CSU coach Scott Hatch wants to see continue into the Lions clash.
“We’re obviously heading in the right direction but we’ve got to start putting points on the board,” he said.
“We have to give ourselves more running options. We’ve had a pattern that we’ve put in place all year but the boys aren’t running it.
“We’ve been going that way at the moment so we’re confident we can be right in this.”
CSU are still chasing win number one in 2017 but they’re coming up against another team who are hoping to build some momentum.
Orange City are currently struggling to keep pace with the front runners in the competition, having just two wins from six games this season.
Lions travel to Bathurst coming off a tough 36-5 loss against last year’s grand finalists Forbes Platypi.
Even with that being the case, Hatch said the Lions are a team who will punish anyone who underestimates them.
“They’ve still got a really strong team. They’ve got Logan Brockmann, who I coached in the 20s – a technically brilliant and head-smart player. They’ve got plenty of players like him across the park,” he said.
A great result for CSU will give a boost going into matches against Cowra Eagles and Mudgee Wombats, who are also fighting to stay off the bottom of the ladder.
