ST Pat’s might be favourites for Saturday’s women’s Premier League Hockey match against Lithgow Zig Zag, but that does not mean there is room for complacency.

After suffering back-to-back defeats in last weekend’s double-header, Saints coach Jaden Ekert will be looking for intensity when his players travel to Lithgow.
When that quality was missing last Saturday his side lost 2-1 to Confederates. When it was present in Sunday’s match against Bathurst City, even though going down 3-2, the Saints produced a much better brand of hockey.
“You’ve got to turn up and perform. If you don’t, regardless of who you play, they are going to score because your mindset is completely different,” Ekert said.
“We have to have the same intensity and same mindset as we did [against Bathurst City]. We need to stay strong.
“The girls are so close that if one of them is down, the whole lot drop their heads, but in saying that, when someone scores, everyone is all in and that’s brilliant.”
Though sitting in fifth on the ladder, the Saints side has the same amount of competition points as defending champions Lithgow Panthers and Ex-Services, while second-placed Confederates is one win further ahead.
It means victory against Zig Zag, a side yet to win this season, could move them up a number of rungs.
“We’ve probably played the top three teams in the competition so far, we win two and we lose one, but’s that’s how it is,” the coach said.
St Pat’s will face Lithgow Zig Zag from 2.40pm in Lithgow on Saturday.
