That’s not the start of a team list, that’s the list of Orange City’s unavailable regulars for this weekend’s round eight Blowes Clothing Cup clash against Mudgee.
“It’s been one of those years so far, it just seems like unavailability and injuries are never-ending at the moment,” Lions coach Steve Hamson said.
“When everyone is available and fit we’ll have a more than reasonable side, but for the moment it’s going to be a pretty tough slog.
“That’s why we haven’t really spoken about Mudgee or focused too much on them, to be honest we have so many of our own issues we haven’t been able to.”
Even so, Hamson is still confident of taking down the Wombats, a side which has struggled through the opening seven rounds.
Mudgee suffered a brutal 105-0 loss at the hand of Dubbo Kangaroos last weekend.
“I would be disappointed if we can’t field a side to beat Mudgee, based on their results this year anyway,” Hamson said.
“After such a heavy loss on the road last weekend I can’t imagine there’s too many blokes who want to hop in the car for a longer trip this weekend.
“But I know Mudgee has a pretty good rugby culture and will want to bounce back, so there’s probably plenty of motivation there for them.
“It’s just one of those things, Mudgee is struggling a bit but they need to battle through this tough period because I’m sure they will come out the other side.”
The Lions are set to call on a number on lower graders and colts for Saturday’s fixture, they have the benefit of a blockbuster third grade side which features a number of Blowes Clothing Cup title winners from 2012 and 2013.
“We’ll have a couple of colts who have done a good job for us off the bench in the past, guys like AJ McNiven and Mitch Winslade should feature,” Hamson said.
The Lions also called on the knowledge of Orange CYMS star Tim Mortimer during the week, in a bid to shore up their defensive line.
“We haven’t had any blowouts but teams have put some handy scorelines on us,” Hamson explained.
“Timmy came up and gave us a bit of a hand defensively, just to give us a bit more of a boost there.”
Saturday’s clash at Pride Park kicks off at 3.15pm.
The Lions won’t finalise their starting XV until Friday morning.
