The property suffered minor structural damage in the crash and had to be shored up to make it safe.
The 80-year-old was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Bathurst Base Hospital with lacerations to his hands and suffering shock.
Police and ambulance were called to the scene in De Lisle Place, West Bathurst just after 6pm.
Chifley Local Area Command duty officer Inspector Gerard Powell said police attended the accident and it appears the driver inadvertently put his foot on the accelerator instead of the car’s brake, sending the Hyundai sedan he was driving through the garage door.
Regional controller for the SES, Craig Ronan, confirmed SES volunteers attended the house and assisted police by stabilising the house and making it safe.
A spokesperson for NSW Ambulance said paramedics responded to a call for assistance and when they arrived found a male aged in his 80s who had been involved in a collision at his house.
“He was treated by paramedics for lacerations and transported to Bathurst Base Hospital via ambulance for further treatment,” the spokesperson said.
