After entering the home straight with a 12m advantage, the Nathan Hurst, Eglinton trained gelding faded.
However, Hedges urged on Tulhurst Santanna ($3.40) and he managed to hold on in the 1,800m feature for an all-the-way win.
The Santanna Blue Chip x Ballroom Belle three-year-old held off a fast finishing Lethal Promises ($2.90, Chris Geary) to win by 2.1m. He rated 1:57.7 for the trip to post his first victory since saluting in Parkes on December 11 last year.
Bathurst region trainers dominated the meeting with The Lagoon’s Steve Turnbull posting a quinella in the last, Amanda Turnbull snaring a winning double, while Josh Turnbull, Mat Rue and Gemma Hewitt each enjoyed a victory as well.
