It’s been a big few weeks for Xanthe Booth, who not only won the $2000 Cowra Arts Council Scholarship at the Cowra Eisteddfod, but also enjoyed success in the Parramatta Eisteddfod on Sunday night, where she placed third in the Speech and Drama Scholarship, picking up another $500.
Her teacher, Anne McIntosh, said it was the first time Xanthe had competed in a metropolitan eisteddfod and the experience was invaluable.
“In both scholarships, Xanthe performed a character sketch and a 19th and 20th century verse,” Mrs McIntosh said.
“In Parramatta, she had the added challenge of doing a two minute impromptu speech, the topic being ‘it’s okay to rebel’.”
Mrs McIntosh said Xanthe did an amazing job.
“She brought her trademark humour to the speech and was thoroughly entertaining,” she said.
