Grant recipients in Bathurst electorate include the Bathurst Local Aboriginal Land Council, which will receive $3000 for the staging of the Jimmy Little Concert; the Bathurst Young Mob, $1000 for Generation Now NAIDOC Workshops; and Mackillop College, which will receive $750 to help fund Wiradjuri language awareness.
Bathurst MP Paul Toole welcomed the funding.
“NAIDOC Week is an important opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the tremendous achievements of Aboriginal people here in our electorate and right across the country,” he said.
“I congratulate all recipients on the success of their applications.”
NAIDOC, National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee, will run from July 2-9 with the theme ‘Our Languages, Our Way’.
Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Sarah Mitchell said 116 grants totalling $200,000 had been invested in local Aboriginal communities across NSW.
“The NSW Government recognises the rich and diverse history of Australia’s first people and these grants assist in showcasing our Aboriginal heritage and identity,” Mrs Mitchell said.
