JB Hi-Fi, one of Australia’s most well-known entertainment retailers, is moving to Bathurst and is set to open its new store on Thursday, July 20.
It will move into the former Dick Smith store in Bathurst City Centre which has been vacant since early last year after parent company Dick Smith Holdings was placed into receivership on January 5, 2016 and voluntary administrators were appointed.
Last month, when JB Hi-Fi advertised 35 new positions – including store manager, sales and media co-ordinators, music and movie advisers and store people – 600 people applied.
JB Hi-Fi area manager Brent Jenkins said 28 locals were among those who secured a position.
Staff commenced their new jobs on Monday, with empty racks across the store still-to-be-filled with thousands of products.
“We’ve got a really good team,” Mr Jenkins said of the new staff. “There’s a lot of excitement from them to be working here.”
Bathurst store manager Sarah Le Fevre moved to the city from Sydney for the position and was only too happy to take the Western Advocate on a tour through the soon-to-open store.
She said the JB Hi-Fi store is expansive and it will include a range of departments to appeal to many people in the community.

There will be a small appliances department, movies, music, fitness, telecommunications, Apple products, cameras, games, computers, visual and televisions, home audio, wireless and portable audio.
Exactly which music is stocked in Bathurst, Mr Jenkins said, will depend on local tastes and requests from the public.
Mr Jenkins said the Bathurst store’s vinyl album section will be aimed at music lovers of all ages.
“There will be a full display of vinyl with old school displays in wooden racks,” he said.
Mr Jenkins said hundreds of people flocked to the official opening of the JB Hi-Fi store in Dubbo last September, and he expects the Bathurst store’s opening to be just as popular.
