A week after going down to Bulldogs Verdelho it was a different story for Collegians on Saturday as they accounted for Mana Wasps 58-27.
Collegians coach Melissa Noonan said her side had the edge over a determined Wasps outfit from the first quarter.
“We’re very pleased with that. We won by 24 against them in the first round and this time we’ve won by 31, so we’ve improved,” she said.
“We led from the start. Mana definitely came out stronger than they did last time, but by the end of the first quarter we were up by seven.
“Our combinations worked really well, our shooters were on target and our defence was always there to clean up.”
Collegians have scored more than any other team in the A grade competition this season.
Their offensive prowess was on display again in Saturday’s game.
“Our attacking end was a lot stronger,” Noonan said.
“Our girls kept the ball safe all game and did a great job at working the ball into the circle.”
Collegians added to their earlier 46-22 win over Wasps in round one.
The win takes Mystified up into second spot on the ladder, after Panthers A had the bye.
Bulldogs Verdelho successfully held onto the A grade competition lead they picked up last week.
They did so thanks to a convincing 57-15 win over Nova Pusuit in the day’s final match.
LJ Hooker Hawks gave themselves a much needed boost in the fourth spot race thanks to their strong 57-32 win over Panthers WWL.
Hawks now sit on 17 points, just two away from Panthers A.
More importantly the Hawks now hold a four-point buffer over WWL, their next closest contenders.
Next round’s match of the week will be between top three front runners Panthers A and Bulldogs.
Collegians will take on a buoyed Hawks side and Nova will play Wasps.
